Success at last for Sanbuck
Jun 13, 2020
Patience paid off for the connections of Sanbuck at Geelong, where he broke his maiden status at start number 12. The three year old gelding had been runner-up on six occasions prior to scoring, and he had been beaten by some promising types including The General (who has since performed well in city grade).
Sanbuck drew the outside barrier but that didn't deter jockey Jason Maskiell from taking the galloper straight to the front and he dominated from there, never looking like being run down.
A $65,000 yearling purchase, Sanbuck is the first foal to race out of Lateva, who is a half-sister to former smart spinter, Grand Duels. Both were trained by Byron, so he knows the family well.
